Welcome to my web page! I am happy to announce this year is my 30th year with Safford High School (20 as a teacher/coach and 10 as the high school principal). When I came here 30 years ago I only wanted to help. As principal, I take the same approach. I only want to help. I can honestly say that we as a staff want to help the students become better students, citizens, community members and people as they move into their adult lives.

| Luck!
Do you ever wonder how we end up where we are as we go through life? Is it divine intervention? Is it 'meant to be?' Or does it have to do with luck? As a coach 'back in the day' one of your favorite phrases we coaches would say to each other was, "I'd rather be lucky than good." The meaning here was simple, if the ball would bounce our way and it resulted in a victory we would give credit to 'luck' rather than skill because we really have no control over the bounce a ball takes when it is in play. I never shared this with my counterparts but I had an extended meaning. I did and still do believe luck plays a role, however, I think you better be good in order to take advantage of the luck that falls your way. So, throughout my career as a coach and teacher, I tried to make the students good enough to take advantage of the luck that comes their way and strong enough to control their reactions to both the good and bad luck that will inevitably come their way. It has been ten years that I have been on the job as a principal and I can honestly say this is much more difficult and demanding than I ever thought it would be. Just controlling how I react to the daily 'luck' that comes and goes is a trying venture not to mention trying to be 'good' in all the aspects of this position. I think that truly is impossible. However, I will never stop trying to make the students good enough to take advantage of the luck that comes their way and strong enough to control their reactions to it.
