Welcome to Adobe GoLive 6
We are beginning to enter the holiday season, which is personally one of my favorite times of the year. It is a time when family and friends gather and remember things we are thankful for. On Veterans Day we remember those who have served our country protecting our freedom. Schedules get busy and I want to encourage all students to make sure they are still keeping up on schoolwork because it is important too. Attendance is also important because students canít learn what they need to if they arenít in the classroom.

We felt the need to institute a new change in the cafeteria due to students with food allergies and also to promote good health habits. We are asking students to not exchange food with each other to keep our students as healthy as we can. We have done 3 announcements in the mornings and cafeteria aides are reminding students as well. Thank you for reminding your child as well. ☺
Early Checkout Ė parents, we are requesting, if at all possible, to not check students out early. We work hard to educate our/your children and need students until the end of the day to get a full day of teaching in. Thank you!
McMurray Communications contacted our school and they are putting together a food drive in conjunction with Maverick Motorsports, Century Link, Freedom Ford, LifeNet, Dominos Pizza, and Manor House Restaurant. Each class is collecting nonperishable food items to help needy families in our community. We are working as a school to show our citizenship and character by giving to those in our community. Thank you for any support you can give and the deadline for the drive is November 22nd.
It is hard to believe that school is almost over for this year! I am encouraging our students to finish strong behaviorally and academically. We have the Turn Off the TV and Read final reward events coming up. We will have a K-2 Activity Day for those students who filled in 6 TVís or more by April 19th. Grades 3-6 Water Dayís cutoff for 6 TVís was April 19th. We also have a reward for 3-6 students in Park Day and Kindergarten Water Day. These rewards have to do with good behavior. I want to thank parents for partnering with us this school to help make our students safe, successful, and high achievers. Our staff, students, parents, and community help make Lafe Nelson School a great place to be.
School will resume on August 7th.
I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer and see you next year!
Our very own LNS P.E. Teacher, Carole Brady, was awarded Arizona Rural Schools Teacher of the Year for Graham County in 2012. She takes her job very seriously with passion and conviction mixed with the joy of working with students and educators. Mrs. Brady always does her P.E teaching responsibilities to the best of her ability and still finds ways to consistently lend a helping hand to teachers and their classrooms. She offers extra time to teachers to help them with struggling students whether itís reading practice or math practice. Sometimes she covers duties as well.
Mrs. Brady wants her impact to be made the most in the area of staff and studentsí health. She has solicited funding, has organized, and implemented school-wide events such as our Fun Run where staff, students, and parents were invited to run along a lined route for fun. We had a high number of participation and the event even included another school. She also applied for a local grant to establish an after school physical education program called Fit Kids Club. This is a program for students who need and want extra physical activity, which has hooked many of our students and made them more physically fit. Mrs. Brady also runs and administrates our Walk the Dogs program where students earn charms for walking laps on our Walk The Dog field.
Mrs. Brady has also been involved heavily in our state physical education association (AzAHPERD). She has served as secretary and president and is well respected among her peers. She received Elementary Teacher of Year from this organization and has also been our local Rotary Club Teacher of Distinction. She works hard for students and our school and it is with honor and privilege that we recognize her.
Itís hard to believe the first quarter is almost over! Parent Teacher conferences are October 16th and 17th. This time is set-aside for you to meet with teachers to discuss your childís progress and receive your childís report card. Our goal is to meet with every childís parent, because we know that teacher/parent partnership is one of the most important ingredients for student success. School will be dismissed at 11:20am on both of those days to allow time for conferences. I would like to thank each parent in advance for their efforts to meet with their childís teacher. Thank you for your support!
